Top 100 Songs - Download/Listen Top 100 Songs!

In music, a song is a composition that contains vocal parts ("lyrics") that are performed ("sung"), commonly accompanied by musical instruments, exception in the case of a cappella songs. The lyrics of songs are typically of a poetic, rhyming nature, although they may be religious verses or free prose.

Songs are typically for a solo singer, though they may also be in the form of a duet, trio, or larger ensemble involving more voices. See part song. (Works with more than one voice to a part, however, are considered choral.) Songs can be broadly divided into many different forms, depending on the criteria used. One division is between "art songs", "pop songs", and "folk songs". Other common methods of classification are by purpose (sacred vs secular), by style (dance, ballad, Lied, etc.), or by time of origin (Renaissance, Contemporary, etc.).

A song is a piece of music for accompanied or unaccompanied voice or voices or, "the act or art of singing," but the term is generally not used for large vocal forms including opera and oratorio. However, the term is, "often found in various figurative and transferred sense (e.g. for the lyrical second subject of a sonata...)." The word "song" has the same etymological root as the verb "to sing" and the OED defines the word to mean "that which is sung"

World Music Day 2010 - June 21st Every Year!

The Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, is a music festival taking place on June 21. The idea was first broached in 1976 by American musician Joel Cohen, then employed by the national French radio station France Musique. Cohen proposed an all-night music celebration at the moment of the summer solstice. The idea was taken up by French Music and Dance director Maurice Fleuret for Minister of Culture Jack Lang in 1981 and first took place in 1982.

Its purpose is to promote music in two ways:

Amateur and professional musicians are encouraged to perform in the streets. The slogan Faites de la musique (Make music), a homophone of Fête de la Musique, is used to promote this goal.

Many free concerts are organized, making all genres of music accessible to the public. Two of the caveats to being sanctioned by the official Fête de la Musique organization in Paris are that all concerts must be free to the public, and all performers donate their time for free.

Despite there being a large tolerance about the performance of music by the general public of amateurs in public areas after usual hours, the noise restrictions still apply, and can cause some establishments to be forbidden to open and broadcast music out of their doors without prior authorization. So the prefectures of police in France can still forbid them to install any audio hardware in the street.

SCOUNDRELS - The ABCs TV Show

The Canadian-born actor, 49, is red hot -- starring in two simultaneous shows.

During the day, he'll throw a party for the cast and crew of his ode-to-pops Hallmark Channel movie, Dad's Day, about a widower who loses his big advertising job and reconnects with his kids. Later he'll toast his return to prime time with his new ABC comedy Scoundrels. He plays a crooked patriarch of a family of petty crooks trying to clean up their act after he's sent to the slammer.

Good thing his L.A. home -- which he shares with actress wife Nanci Chambers and their two kids -- is made for entertaining. ``I can feed a lot of people and put on a real show,'' says the actor, who first caught the attention of fans in the 1990s on the original Melrose Place. ``I've got a pizza oven in my back yard. It was the architect's mistake but I've made the best of it.''

Elliott may have not been burning up the tube in a few years, but he still gets stopped ``every day'' for his role on legal drama JAG, playing Cmdr. Harmon Rabb from 1995-2005.

When the Toronto native landed the lead in JAG (or Judge Advocate General), he didn't think the show would stick.

``A lot of people were very down on the military when we started,'' he says. ``But then 9/11 happened and it changed how the country felt -- the worst possible reason.''

Elliott gets saluted every so often and still gets a lot of fan mail. ``I feel like I was in the military in a way. We took great pains to make it authentic.''

These days, Elliott may be hitting a new career high, but kids Stephanie, 17, and Wyatt, 7, won't treat him any differently on Sunday.

``Mother's Day was just last month so by the time they get around to me it's pretty anticlimactic,'' laughs Elliott. ``It kind of sticks a pin in my balloon.''

GRAEME MCDOWELL GIRL FRIEND - A Brief

In any other era the Portrush man would be the one hogging the headlines, although with his easy-going nature it’s easy to suspect he’s perfectly happy to leave the limelight to others.

No wonder, therefore, that the Americans have greeted the green invasion of their scoreboards this past month with all the enthusiasm of a riotous tee party: Padraig Harrington’s victory in the Honda Classic a fortnight ago; Des Smyth’s maiden win on the Seniors Tour the same day; Darren Clarke’s eye-catching pants at Bay Hill last week, a triumph of sartorial inelegance. And then there’s Graeme McDowell.

Graeme McDowell does this every year in early July. Not the fry bit, just the ferry bit. The week of the Scottish Open, he loads up the Range Rover on the Monday, drives the hour from Portrush to Larne, rolls onto P&O’s finest for an hour and hey presto he has his own car in the drive for a fortnight. He has his clubs in the boot so he doesn’t have to spend an hour and a couple of hundred quid dragging them through an airport even 29 year old multi-millionaires resent lining the anti-golfer pockets of Ryanair and Easyjet at this point and better yet, he can live out the next two weeks without being a slave to the rhythms of the tour. Logistics become a whole lot simpler when you’re not relying on a courtesy car timetable.

Ernie Els and Gregroy Havret are tied for fourth at par, and Phil Mickelson had to settle for sixth place at plus one after a not-so-good round yesterday. Phil Mickelson seems to play brilliantly one day and poorly the next. If he follows that trend, he could wind up winning today.

Endangered Birds

Come monsoon, and one of the most endangered bird species of the world, the lesser florican, will make the Blackbuck National Park (BNP) in Velavadar their abode. These birds flock to the sanctuary in Bhavnagar for mating. It's a rare sight to watch the spectacular courtship of this bird, which is unique.

According to assistant conservator of forests, BNP, J S Solanki, lesser floricans have already started arriving in the sanctuary. "They start arriving at the onset of monsoon and start marking their territories in the grasslands,'' Solanki said.

Wildlife lovers say the male can jump over a metre high to impress the female and attract her, sometimes up to 500 times a day. "During breeding season, males also change plumage to dark black and the neck with white elongated belt on the edge of the wings," said wildlife photographer Bhushan Pandya, adding, "Feathers on the back are pinkish black and they have prominent neck, which can be seen easily from a distance.'' Females are bigger in size, but shy. They are attracted by the vertical leaps of the male florins, forest officials said.

One of the bustard family, the floricans, are recognised as highly endangered species. "It's one of four critically endangered bird species of India, and one of the 50 rarest birds of the world. The species is protected under Schedule I of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972," said Solanki, adding that this species is regarded as endangered because its population is declining primarily as a result of loss and degradation of dry grassland. The grassland in Velavadar park provides an ideal and safe place for breeding to this bird.

These birds start laying eggs in August to September period. After breeding, these omnivorous birds move into peninsular India. Every year, forest department conducts a population estimation of this rare bird. "The numbers could be more than the sightings as it is difficult to sight these birds during the mating in grasslands," foresters added.

Red Card in Football - A Brief

A penalty card is used in many sports as a means of warning, reprimanding or penalising a player, coach or team official. Penalty cards are most commonly used by referees or umpires to indicate that a player has committed an offence. The referee will hold the card above his or her head while looking or pointing towards the player that has committed the offence. The colour and/or shape of the card used by the official indicates the type or seriousness of the offence and the level of punishment that is to be applied.

The idea of using language-neutral coloured cards to communicate a referee's intentions originated with British football referee Ken Aston. Aston had been appointed to the FIFA Referees' Committee and was responsible for all referees at the 1966 FIFA World Cup. In the quarter finals, England met Argentina at Wembley Stadium. After the match, newspaper reports stated that referee Rudolf Kreitlein had cautioned both Bobby and Jack Charlton. The referee had not made his decision clear during the game, and England manager Alf Ramsey approached FIFA for post-match clarification.

This incident started Aston thinking about ways to make a referee's decisions clearer to both players and spectators. Aston realised that a colour coding scheme based on the same principle as used on traffic lights (yellow - caution, red - stop) would traverse language barriers and clarify whether a player had been cautioned or expelled. As a result, yellow cards to indicate a caution and red cards to indicate an expulsion were used for the first time in the 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. The use of penalty cards has since been adopted and expanded by several sporting codes, with each sport adapting the idea to its specific set of rules or laws.

Thanjavur Temple - Tanjore Temple

The Peruvudaiyar Kovil or Brihadeeswarar Temple , also known as Rajarajeswaram, at Thanjavur in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is the world's first complete granite temple and a brilliant example of the major heights achieved by Cholas kingdom Vishwakarmas in temple architecture. It is a tribute and a reflection of the power of its patron RajaRaja Chola I. It remains as one of the greatest glories of Indian architecture. The temple is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Great Living Chola Temples".

This temple is one of India's most prized architectural sites. The temple stands amidst fortified walls that were probably added in the 16th century. The 'Vimana' - or the temple tower - is 216 ft (66 m) high and is among the tallest of its kind in the world. The Kalash or 'Chikharam' (apex or the bulbous structure on the top) of the temple is not carved out of a single stone as is widely believed. There is a big statue of Nandi (sacred bull), carved out of a single rock, at the entrance measuring about 16 feet long and 13 feet high. The entire temple structure is made out of hard granite stones, a material sparsely available currently in Thanjavur area where the temple is located.

Kawasaki Disease - A Brief of Kawasaki Disease

Kawasaki disease (KD), also known as Kawasaki syndrome, lymph node syndrome and Mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome, is an autoimmune disease that manifests as a systemic necrotizing medium-sized vessel vasculitis and is largely seen in children under 5 years of age. It affects many organ systems, mainly those including the blood vessels, skin, mucous membranes and lymph nodes; however, its most serious effect is on the heart where it can cause severe coronary artery aneurysms in untreated children.

Without treatment, mortality may approach 1%, usually within 6 weeks of onset. With treatment, the mortality rate is less than 0.01% in the U.S. There is often a pre-existing viral infection that may play a role in its pathogenesis. The conjunctival and oral mucosa, along with the epidermis (skin), become erythematous (red and inflamed).

Edema is often seen in the hands and feet and the cervical lymph nodes are often enlarged. Also, a remittant fever, often 40℃ (104°F) or higher, is characteristic of the acute phase of the disease. In untreated children, the febrile period lasts on average approximately ten days, but may range from 5 to 25 days. The disorder was first described in 1967 by Dr. Tomisaku Kawasaki in Japan.

* The reuse of suitable Telstra infrastructure, including pits, ducts and backhaul fibre, by NBN Co as it starts to rollout its new network - avoiding unnecessary infrastructure duplication; and
* The progressive migration of customers from Telstra's copper and pay-TV cable networks to the new wholesale-only fibre network to be built and operated by NBN Co.

The Agreement means that:

* Taxpayers benefit because it reduces the overall cost of building the network and will result in higher take-up rates and revenue for NBN Co.
* A greater proportion of the NBN rollout will be underground, with less overhead cabling.
* Australia's largest telecommunications company, Telstra, will become a participant in the rollout of the NBN, and is likely to become NBN Co's largest customer.

Combined with Australian Government public policy reforms, Telstra estimates that the agreement announced today will deliver Telstra a post-tax net present value of approximately $11 billion. The payments by NBN Co to Telstra would be made over a number of years as the rollout progresses.

Through the migration of Telstra customers to the NBN, Australia will benefit significantly from a national wholesale-only broadband network, delivering structural separation of Telstra.

This historic microeconomic reform will ensure Australia finally has a genuinely competitive telecommunications industry which works for all Australian households and businesses, and helps to drive long-term productivity growth in our economy.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will review the competition aspects of this agreement as envisaged in the Telecommunications Competition and Consumer Safeguards Bill, which the Government still hopes to pass to provide greater certainty to industry.

In support of the Agreement, the Australian Government will progress public policy reforms to support the transition to NBN to which Telstra attributes a value of approximately $2 billion. It will:

* Establish a new entity, USO Co - with Commonwealth funding of $50 million in 2012-13 and 2013-14, increasing to $100 million per annum thereafter. The remaining funding that USO Co requires will be contributed by industry, as it is now with final arrangements subject to industry and stakeholder consultation;
* Provide $100 million to Telstra to assist in the retraining and redeployment of Telstra staff that will be affected by this very significant reform to the structure of the telecommunications industry; and
* Require NBN Co to be the wholesale supplier of last resort for fibre connections in greenfield developments from 1 January 2011.

These important contributions were provided for in the 2010-11 Budget.

USO Co will assume responsibility for most of Telstra's Universal Service Obligations for the delivery of standard telephone services, payphones and emergency call handling from 1 July 2012. This will ensure that essential communications services are protected and assist the structural reform of the industry.

Telstra, NBN Co and the Commonwealth agencies will now move to negotiate detailed Definitive Agreements, which is expected to take some months.

When these negotiations are concluded the Definitive Agreements will be put to Telstra's shareholders and the Government, for final approval.

While today's announcement is a significant step in the rollout of the NBN, as confirmed by the NBN Implementation Study, this project would still be financially viable even without the participation of Telstra.

The NBN is critical to securing Australia's international competitiveness. It is central to Australia's economic future because it will deliver universal superfast broadband to all Australian households and businesses no matter where they live or do business.

It is being held in South Africa, beginning on 11 June and scheduled to conclude on 11 July 2010. 4G in India: TRAI Letter to Telecos & Manufacturers

4G refers to the fourth generation of cellular wireless standards. It is a successor to 3G and 2G families of standards. The nomenclature of the generations generally refers to a change in the fundamental nature of the service, non-backwards compatible transmission technology and new frequency bands. The first was the move from 1981 analogue (1G) to digital (2G) transmission in 1992. This was followed, in 2002, by 3G multi-media support, spread spectrum transmission and at least 200 kbit/s, soon expected to be followed by 4G, which refers to all-IP packet-switched networks, mobile ultra-broadband (gigabit speed) access and multi-carrier transmission. Pre-4G technologies such as mobile WiMAX and first-release 3G Long term evolution (LTE) are available on the market since 2005 and 2009 respectively.

A 4G system is expected to provide a comprehensive and secure all-IP based solution where facilities such as IP telephony, ultra-broadband Internet access, gaming services and streamed multimedia may be provided to users.

This article uses 4G to refer to IMT Advanced (International Mobile Telecommunications Advanced), as defined by ITU-R.

An IMT advanced cellular system must have target peak data rates of up to approximately 100 Mbit/s for high mobility such as mobile access and up to approximately 1 Gbit/s for low mobility such as nomadic/local wireless access, according to the ITU requirements. Scalable bandwidths up to at least 40 MHz should be provided.

In all suggestions for 4G, the CDMA spread spectrum radio technology used in 3G systems and IS-95 is abandoned and replaced by frequency-domain equalization schemes, for example multi-carrier transmission such as OFDMA. This is combined with MIMO (i.e. multiple antennas(Multiple In Multiple Out)), dynamic channel allocation and channel-dependent scheduling.

It is a widely known celebration.

He didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it. ~Clarence Budington Kelland

My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard. Mother would come out and say, "You're tearing up the grass." "We're not raising grass," Dad would reply. "We're raising boys." ~Harmon Killebrew

One father is more than a hundred Schoolemasters. ~George Herbert, Outlandish Proverbs, 1640

Fatherhood is pretending the present you love most is soap-on-a-rope. ~Bill Cosby

Father! - to God himself we cannot give a holier name. ~William Wordsworth

Henry James once defined life as that predicament which precedes death, and certainly nobody owes you a debt of honor or gratitude for getting him into that predicament. But a child does owe his father a debt, if Dad, having gotten him into this peck of trouble, takes off his coat and buckles down to the job of showing his son how best to crash through it. ~Clarence Budington Kelland

There's one sad truth in life I've found
While journeying east and west -
The only folks we really wound
Are those we love the best.
We flatter those we scarcely know,
We please the fleeting guest,
And deal full many a thoughtless blow
To those who love us best.
~Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away. ~Dinah Craik

Sherman made the terrible discovery that men make about their fathers sooner or later... that the man before him was not an aging father but a boy, a boy much like himself, a boy who grew up and had a child of his own and, as best he could, out of a sense of duty and, perhaps love, adopted a role called Being a Father so that his child would have something mythical and infinitely important: a Protector, who would keep a lid on all the chaotic and catastrophic possibilities of life. ~Tom Wolfe, The Bonfire of the Vanities

Spread the diaper in the position of the diamond with you at bat. Then fold second base down to home and set the baby on the pitcher's mound. Put first base and third together, bring up home plate and pin the three together. The term SMS is used as a synonym for all types of short text messaging, as well as the user activity itself, in many parts of the world.

SMS as used on modern handsets was originally defined as part of the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) series of standards in 1985 as a means of sending messages of up to 160 characters, to and from GSM mobile handsets. Since then, support for the service has expanded to include other mobile technologies such as ANSI CDMA networks and Digital AMPS, as well as satellite and landline networks. Most SMS messages are mobile-to-mobile text messages, though the standard supports other types of broadcast messaging as well.
